Not sure how many people know this, but my days as performer and recording artist are over. Done. At least as far as I know in my life right now. It has been a long process of coming to grips with this, and I will definitely miss aspects of it, but I have to say that I haven't felt sad about it at all. It was a decision I made hestitantly but excitedly. After lengthy conversations with people I know and love and trust, I began to realize that I am the type of person who will always love recording, and performing, and I hope and pray that they will always be a part of who I am and what I do. But more than those two things combined, I love to write music. It is the best part for me. It is the best part of me.

I have put off posting this for about 5 months. I've been working like a little busy bee. But like the little creature I've been going about it in a solitary way, all the while very wrapped up in the swarms around me. Been buzzin' with excitement, I have. But then you realize that one day you just have to say it. Make it real to the world.

I have a few more shows lined up for September that were booked awhile back. Those I will play. But other than that you will find me most days locked up in my studio writing songs I never knew I had it in me to write. (Seriously - Country music! And now Brit pop ballads!) And I'm LOVING it. I'm writing for other artists who are rising stars, and I'm excited to collaborate with some very, very talented writers in Canadian music. It's so wonderful.

I'm going to use this blog to write about new developments and new songs and co-writes that I'm excited about it. I hope to have some great stories to tell in the next year!

There are 10 things that I will share
Tuesday, 20 April 2010 00:00

  1. One song I wish I could have written, because it says everything I’ve been trying to for years is “Good Mother” by Jann Arden. I also realize that I’m probably one of ten thousand to say that.
  2. People talk about wanting to find balance in life. I think artists are the only ones craving imbalance these days. Let them lead the way!
  3. I have a profound respect for Prince – us tiny ones must stick together!
  4. I will second-guess decisions I’ve made for years, but I’m a confident person. In real life.
  5. I had a 6 pack in high school without ever trying. I wouldn’t say beauty is wasted on the young, but it sure goes underappreciated!
  6. I started my degree hoping to become a journalist. It made sense until I realized that journalism required bending the truth at times. My closet raging hippy heart couldn’t handle the inauthenticity, so it was over fast!
  7. I have witnessed a miracle.
  8. I make the weirdest combinations of food. For dinner tonight? Goat cheese on carrot sticks, and a soup I made consisting of mushrooms, cauliflower, lentils and ginger. People who politely decline my offer to bring food to parties just don’t know what they’re missing! J
  9. A few of the most significant people in my life became such initially by their pursuit, not mine. I thank God every day for their insight, and I think that though they may not know it, it is weighted differently now. They might have done a lot to know me then, but I would do anything to keep them now.
  10. I laugh easily. And I like it.

Order of business

I know this is a little impersonal compared to some blog entries, but I guess I can’t always be spilling my guts out here. So here’s something a little more orderly.

I am available to you online in more than just one way.
