It's a little family we've built. I think this is what it would have felt like to grow up with hippy parents. We've slept in a different parking lot or street corner every night so far. We have our favourites that we go back to (the ones with water and power hook ups and without an early morning rush hour crowd), but it's never the same place two nights in a row.
Last night we started our long run of shows that will keep us in Edmonton until Tuesday. Last night we played at Jeffrey's Cafe with Chloe Albert, a former MacEwan peer that I hadn't seen in 5 years! It was such a great night of music and truly a delight to hear her sing again. Her voice is a cross between Susan Tedeschi and Kathleen Edwards (in my opinion), which only means that it is nothing short of soulful, raw, and breathtaking. Laurell and I were both thrilled to play with someone who inspired us musically.
Tonight we are slotted to play at the Urban Lounge on Whyte Ave. They decided to give our show tonight a title. A name of sorts. Something to really draw a crowd. And they decided on this:
"A Night with the Diva's"
Yes. That is right. There will be a total of 4 girls singing tonight and so we're going to be as Diva-ish as possible to try to out-Diva them all. I think Laurell and I will probably ask for the club owner to escort us from Harvey the RV into the venue with black umbrellas. We'll ask for mineral water from the Tantalis glacier, and to have our merch table lined in 800 thread count from Egypt. We'll ask to be hand fed imported olives from Isreal, and we will perform only once they've changed the lights in the room to 26,500 watts. It should be a good time!
And once we've recovered from a night of meaningful interaction with others (which we expect will happen after a show such as this), we'll go back to our RV and sit in there for an hour while we try to decide which WalMart or church parking lot to park at for the night.
